Visual art was the primary interest of Jill Barclay’s working life. Born in Melbourne, she studied painting and the history of art at the Caulfield Institute of Technology and taught in secondary schools in central Victoria and the Northern Territory. During the 1980s, Jill wrote artist profiles and exhibition reviews, opinion pieces and a regular column for the Bendigo Advertiser. She was publicity officer for Castlemaine’s Regional Gallery. Jill and her partner formed Murdoch and Barclay Pty Ltd a high-end framer for works of art in Melbourne. She incorporated a conservation consultancy and commercial gallery into the business. Jill now lives in Castlemaine, is retired and uses the time to write.
